The time has now come for those who give importance to the soul of our human society to the values we here defend, no matter what side chosen, for worrisome times.
We are witnessing from all sides for the fist time in a long time, the failure of one of the most evolved public system of the occidental world.
Our society can be proud of this perfectible institutional system, where weaknesses have received legitimate criticism, we indeed did not hold our tongues, because it enabled throughout numerous struggles, to hold in our esteem the idea of art as open to all, as well as the elevated human mission of our culture : ideas founding the French cultural identity.
The situation we encounter today is the outcome of numerous negligence in the past years, of consensual procedures lacking seriousness, which we have continually denounced ; in that, within our cynical and commercial world, politics have overlooked the importance of values in Art. And now we are stuck : our cultural system has weakened such that it is without exaggeration possible to see the end of national responsibility regarding art and culture. Only can a violent burst get us out of this terrible trap.
May all women and men of this country, may they be ’right’ or ’left’ winged, but all those who continue believing in the beneficial and fundamental role that art and culture hold in this civilization, clearly speak it : our values must not be left to die. These immaterial values must find protectors and concrete relays to as to be manifested realistically. In what other ways can this exist considering the abandonment of these values by the political world after it has so cynically served itself ? Are we ready to turn our reasons to live over to merchandize and entertainment ?
